About Us...Leadership
Kevin D. Rose, Minster of Discipleship & Mission

“The great awareness comes slowly, piece by piece. The path of spiritual growth is a path of lifelong learning. The experience of spiritual power is basically a joyful one.”  M. Scott Peck

I have been serving alongside the people of First Baptist Church of Cumberland for nineteen years. Working with all ages, I enjoy the process of assisting others in the discovery and development of their faith. My passion is helping others raise significant questions and seek relevant faith principles. It is my belief that education and faith go hand in hand. While much of life remains in the realm of mystery, I do not believe faith and mystery to be synonymous with ignorance. My own educational and faith journey led me to complete a BA in Religion/Philosophy cum laude from Greenville College, an MS in Elementary Education from Indiana University, and a MA in Christian Education from Southern Baptist Theological Seminary.

Regionally, I have given leadership to various educational events and task groups, youth camps, and conferences, ministerial groups and retreats, written curriculum, and served as an officer/board member of American Baptist Churches of Greater Indianapolis. Nationally, I served on the General Board of American Baptist Churches USA, as President of Educational Ministries, and various other denominational committees. As a council member of the Association of Welcoming and Affirming Baptists, I have helped foster the full inclusion of GLBT individuals in the life of the local and wider church family. I and my partner, Dan, a small business owner, enjoy traveling, theatre and spending time with our godson Austin.

Ministry means the ongoing attempt to put one's own search God, with all the moments of pain and joy, despair and hope at the disposal at those who want to join this search but do not know how. -- Henri Nouwen
