a place where strangers
become friends
Grounded in the biblical
principle that nothing “will be able to separate us from the love of God
in Christ,” we at Cumberland First Baptist, strive to be open to all
people who desire to explore a relationship with God, through Jesus
Christ, regardless of gender, ethnicity, sexual orientation, or status. We
celebrate God’s grace and hospitality with all who come here. We extend
our hand through:
Acceptance:
We are a safe place for you to ask deep questions and to explore diverse
views of faith. You need not check your brain at the door.
Relationships: We are a community of faith where all of life
can be fully shared.
Participation: We offer opportunities for you to engage in
ministries that fuel your passion and make a difference.
Worship: We intentionally design worship to enable you to
have intimate encounters with the Living God.
We are a people, guided in
faith and action by core convictions. Among these are:
The Gospel of God’s
love for each and
all, and our charge to love God and our neighbors as ourselves.
The Bible, our compass which, interpreted through reason and
experience in the context of community, points us toward the true north
of faithful living.
The Baptist Freedom Principles which insist on every person’s
and congregation’s freedom and responsibility to determine their own
place to stand in faith.
The ministry of reconciliation in a world of divisions and
violence. We strive to live at peace with God, ourselves, our neighbors,
and the whole created order.
“What does the Lord
require of you but to do justice and to love mercy and to walk humbly with
your God?” Micah 6:8
