Mission and Service...
What "mission" means to us.

Mission at Cumberland has a rich history. Since Indiana was a frontier, Cumberland First has sought to communicate the gospel in-deed. From the long-standing mission work of the women of our church through the Dorcas circle, to the advocacy work of C.O.M.E. (Community Outreach Ministry Eastside, to our championing of the mission work of our larger Baptist families, the Alliance of Baptists and the ABC-USA, Cumberland First continues to reach out in mission. Join Us!

Cumberland prides itself on its presence within the surrounding community. Our support of local organizations and initiatives connect us to persons and needs beyond our doors. Whether our American Baptist Neighborhood Action Program, the Edna Martin Christian Center, Church World Service’s annual CROP WALK for world hunger, Bread for the World’s “Offering of Letters campaign, or the ongoing work of consortiums like ICON, Indiana? On Non-Discrimination, we reach out in the name of God’s loving embrace of all.

At Cumberland, we take seriously the Latin root of mission—missio, meaning “to send.” From Habitat for Humanity work groups, to the Lighthouse children’s mission in Tallinn, Estonia, to the Medical Service Project Honduras, Cumberland continues its penchant for spreading good news, not only through financial gifts, but through presence in places near and far.
