Three nighttime photos of the solar art project, which is a refinished door designed and painted by our member Pat Rasnic and Donna Watkins. It has symbols of our community - an open communion table, a representation of the Holy Spirit, a labyrinth, Cumberland Arts logo, the City of Cumberland, and the historic Cumberland Trail.

In 2016, the Solar Art Door of Cumberland First Baptist Church was designed by Donna Watkins and Pat Rasnic and constructed and installed by brothers Wyatt and Bob Watkins.

The Solar Art Door of Cumberland First Baptist Church

The Solar Art Door of Cumberland First Baptist Church was constructed and installed in 2016 by brothers Wyatt and Bob Watkins. Its antique oak door features several symbols of the community of Cumberland in the shape of medallions including logos from the Town of Cumberland, Cumberland Arts, Inc., and the Pennsy Trail, as well as the Cumberland Labyrinth. Conceptual design is by Donna Watkins and the medallions the handiwork of local artist Pat Rasnic. The Solar Art Door is powered by the sun—a small Kw solar panel, whose energy production is stored in an embedded 12-volt battery, lighting two LED lamps on a timer, facing north and south.

The Solar Art Door is also an homage to Cumberland First Baptist Church’s commitment to renewable sources of energy and its 36-panel, 9-Kw solar array, situated on the southside roof of the church's west wing. To learn more about our solar installation, find the marker placed on the grounds just beneath it.
